Futsal

We have been so lucky to have Mainland Football to teach some Futsal skills.  We have had 4 sessions over the last 2 weeks...it has been so much fun!

Swimming

For the meantime, we will only be swimming on a Wednesday afternoon.  The weather is beginning to cool down and so the morning swim was just too cold for the children.  We will continue the Wednesday afternoon swim until further notice.

The children have been having a great time in the pool this term.  Thank you to Alison (Hannah F's Mum) for donating her time on a Wednesday afternoon.

Leaving

As you have heard,  I will be leaving Opawa School at the end of this term.  From next term, Room 13 will be having Janine as their teacher.  Over the next few weeks, Janine will be doing some work in Room 13 to get to know the kids.  If you see her, please make her feel welcome.

Graduate School Teacher

Meet Janey, the newest member of our classroom.  Janey is from the Graduate School of education and will be a part of Room 13 for the next 7 weeks of term.  Please pop in and say "hi".

Hi to all the family, whanau and friends of students in room 13! 

I am looking forward to getting to know your children and assist with their learning over the next 7 weeks. I am in my third term of study and have had previous placements with year 8 students at Heaton Intermediate, and new entrants at New Brighton Catholic School. I also have experience teaching English in Vietnam, which is what sparked my interest in teaching as a career. 

This term I am focussing on teaching a wider range of subjects and hooking students in to fun learning activities that will keep them motivated and focussed. I will soon be starting an art unit and am looking forward to getting involved in the whitebait project the students have already begun working on.

I am excited about the challenges and growth both myself and the students will be exposed to this term.

We Love Whitebait!

This year we are part of an awesome initiative to help collect data for the programme running to help the spawning of Whitebait in our local Heathcote River.  You may have seen some of the hay bales along the rivers edge.  Ask us why they are there...we visited for the first time on Thursday and had a look at the pest card - there were some scratches on it - which was pretty exciting!

Swimming at Waltham Pool

Yesterday we went to Waltham Pool for the afternoon.  We had some great activities such as swimming races, bubbles, kickboards and floating making starfish.  We had so much fun.  Thanks to all the parents who came and volunteered their time.

Parents - Room 13 needs you!

We need any parents who could help with our instructional swimming programme.  Our swimming times are:-
WEDNESDAY  2.25-3pm
THURSDAY  9.30-10am

If you are available during these times and could donate some of your time to us, it would be greatly appreciated.
